Wildlife Hair Debuts on the Catwalk at Maticevski New York Fashion Week Show
Sydney stylist, Jayne Wild and her Wildlife Hair team has just completed its first New York Fashion Week catwalk, working with Toni Maticevski to create a stunningly sleek, strong look for the Australian designer’s second New York show on February 3 with iconic Hollywood femme fatale, Myrna Loy as the inspiration.
The brief from Toni Maticevski was to create a strong, fuss free and sexy style that played with the concept of a strong 1930s screen siren image but added a contemporary twist. “Toni loves to include ponytails in his shows as he feels it adds a certain strength to his designs,” explains Wild, “And so playing with this notion we came up with a revamped version that we like to call the 'Toni Tail'!”
Hair was prepped with a ghd thermal protector and sea spray to give it a 'lived in feel' and make it more pliable for smoothing. The canvas was then set for Jayne to create the “Toni Tail.” Hair was sectioned from the top of crown, taking a strong straight part from crown to front and combing flat to each side. It was then sectioned again to the back of the ears with both sides sectioning off, then taking the centre 'V' part in the back section of the hair, combing it up to meet the crown, and tying with an elastic at the root to sit flat. Each side of the 'V' was then wrapped across the head to the ear and pinned in to give the impression of an 'undercut.’ The front of each ear section was then split in two and the back part wrapped across the 'undercut' and pinned to make the basic ‘Toni Tail.'
Jayne flattened the last front section to one side with ghd styling irons and reflection spray to camouflage the natural hairline and pinned it under the 'Toni Tail' while pulling the other side section quite severely back to the ponytail, winding it around the root of 'the Toni' to make it neater. A nanna spray mask was used to spray all the 'undercut' with Bumble & Bumble coloured hair powder to provide a matte finish, leaving the asymmetric flatter side and ‘Toni' natural and shinny. Finally Jayne pinned the hanging 'Toni’ flat to the head at the top of nape area using large exposed bobby pins.
“It was such a rush to be a part of my very first New York show,” enthused Jayne. “The ‘Toni Tail’ complemented the strong bold shapes and textures of Maticevski’s designs perfectly and it was an amazing honour to work with such a talented designer.”
Jayne Wild and her Wildlife Hair team made an Australian trifecta at Toni Maticevski’s NY show, along with major sponsor AUTORE South Sea Pearls, which provided a range of stunning new coloured pearls to complement Maticevski’s designs.
