On Trend - Chad Drinkwater from Suki with a slicked back hair style and a 'big' up-do

VirtualHairCare predicts:

Slicked back or big up do's are the hair style trends to be on the look out for during the later part of 2008. For your hair cut, the bob is still on trend and hanging in there, even though if feels like it has been around for a while (check out the VirtualHairCare articles we found for you from 2001 at the bottom of the page). Also enjoying it's time at the top of the hair fashion trend watch is the full fringe or bangs as in the hair shot to top left from Robert Bava 2008 AHF Award Hairdresser of the Year.

Slicked back hair was the choice of many clothes designers recently for their catwalk presentations. Hussein Chalayan, Louis Vuitton and Calvin Calvin Klein all sent their models down the catwalks with hair that was slicked straight back off the face with a 'wet look' gel. The slight variation on this theme was the slicked down hair from side parting which could be seen at Erdem, Pringle and Jonathan Saunders. Celebs like Salma Hayek, Rachel McAdams, Kate Bosworth, Nicole Richie and Jaime Winstone have all been spotted sporting this look recently.

If you want to try the slicked back look yourself then follow these tips:

  • It works best on mid-length hair as short hair tends to stick up and not lie flat even with loads of gel.
  • Don't bother blowdrying, work the gel through your hair from wet and comb into position.
  • Great if you want a different look with curly hair.
  • Never do this hair style if you have roots on your color as it will make them stand out and not your hair style!

It's hair awards time of year and that mean lots of new collections of photographs of what hairdressers think we will be doing with our hair over the next year.
