Hairdresser of the Year
Andrew Barton - Saks

Andrew Barton, International Creative Director of Saks, the UK’s leading hair and beauty salon group, is celebrating after winning the prestigious title of British Hairdresser of the Year 2006.

Andrew, resident hair expert on Channel 4’s 10 Years Younger, says: “Wow! The hard work now really begins. As a spokesperson for British Hairdressing I want to boost the image of our great craft. I am dedicating the victory to everyone at Saks who has helped, supported and encouraged my nominations.”

“It is a tremendous recognition for all of the hard work that the Saks team and I contribute to the industry every day.”

The British Hairdressing Awards were held at the Grosvenor House Hotel on London’s Park Lane on 27th November. Nominations were received from all the major beauty and fashion editors in the consumer and national press along with industry experts. The other hairdressers nominated for the ultimate hairdressing accolade were Akin Konizi, Angelo Seminara, Antoinette Beenders, Errol Douglas and Richard Ward.

The criteria for winning included contribution to British hairdressing, education and the media and submitting a collection of images that demonstrated superlative cutting skills.

For 2007 Andrew Barton and the Saks Team introduces its collection of hair styles – High Definition.

Andrew says: “High Definition is inspired by international catwalk trends and the woman’s needs and desires, rejecting over-formal, structured hair for a mix of uptown glitz and downtown chic. It’s a noticeable shift in style, texture, shape, cut and colour. Looks in the collection range from fringed crop to swishing bob, from lazy layers to retro rock gothess.

“The modern woman’s essentials are her iPod, mobile, credit card and her colour! Colour intensifies a woman’s style, like her fragrance, mascara and her choice of heel. High Definition designer colours embrace sultry mysterious brunette, pearl and honey blonde, and hot, hot red – with names to match!

The Looks:

hair styles

Fire Bird

Fire Bird reinvents the Twiggy iconic classic with a super-cool side-swept fringe and cropped back. Worn smooth, this sleek look is on fire with a blaze of gold and copper.

This looks works well on oval, long or heart face shapes as the style reduces the length of the face.

Ice Queen

Ice Queen adds an edge of indifferent relaxed glam to Debbie Harry-influenced rock chic. It exudes chunky textures and multi-toned pastel blondes.

This look suits all face shapes as the length can be adjusted to tailor fit.

Golden Girl

Golden Girl is an eternal sex kitten, Bardot-inspired look - dressed-up and undone at the same time. Honey, cream and biscuit blondes dance through cleverly tailored layers and the essential peek-a-boo fringe.

This look suits all face shapes particularly square and angular faces as the textured lengths frame the jaw line.

Deadly Nightshade

Deadly Nightshade cites Mary Quant as the muse for this precision fashionista look. This is smart, sassy hair which unites coffee and plum tones in gothic drama, complete with shiny, patent finish and tailored edges.

This look works on all face shapes as the length can tweaked to suit, and fringes added to accessorise.

Rebel is laid-back and dishevelled Morrison-cool. Worn long and loose, its unstructured influences derive from music icons and rebellious sub-cultural skateboarder vibes. Hidden slices and global panels of colour give a low maintenance effect.

Edge is a Bowie-esque head hugging style offset by low maintenance, hidden slices of colour. The textured, military vibe is sporty and energetic with a nod to mod and ska. Outgrown at the edges, it blurs the lines of the traditional short back and sides. Again, a combination of offset hidden slices of colour and global panels optimize natural pigments in the hair.
